How to make Summer Solstice Jewellery

It’s that time of year again where we start to shed our layers and enjoy the warmth from the sun. As the Summer Solstice is once again in our midst we were feeling inspired to create’ sunny’ jewellery appropriate for the hot weather we’re all praying for.
With this in mind three of our lovely and talented shop staff decided to each design a piece inspired by the Summer solstice.
Sunburst Necklace
It is a time when our glorious Sun reaches its highest point and here down on earth we immerse ourselves in summer.
For me, these lazy summer months are a chance to reconnect with Mother Earth, ditch the thermals and run outside barefoot, feeling good to be alive. Summer Solstice is a time of ritual, festival and celebration and the perfect excuse to wear bright, playful, colourful jewellery.
It is my personal belief that summer jewellery should be born out of natural materials. Wood, Hemp, colourful Leather and Waxed Cotton Cord evoke a feeling of earthiness and freedom.
It allows us to wear jewellery like a second skin which is both breathable and lightweight. Choose pendants made of semi-precious stones, stack bangles high up the arm, adorn your legs with woven cotton anklets, beads, chains and toe rings.
The sun has got his hat on and we’re coming out to play.
Henna inspired Hand Jewellery

This hand piece is fit for a bohemian princess. I have recently been heavily inspired by henna art most commonly used in festivals and ceremonies and I absolutely love the intricate designs on both hands and feet in that wonderful antique colour.

I have also been enthused by a recent trip to see the Cirque Du Soleil. The extremely graceful silk performers were adorned in the most stunning cobalt blue colour, I have been drawn to the colour ever since.
I felt that both of these would tie in beautifully with the hippie vibe of summer solstice celebrations.
I used Vintaj Natural Brass and antique brass findings to re-create the henna look, and cobalt blue glass beads for a pop of colour. It took me a few tries to get the sizing right but was relatively simple to make. I will definitely be creating at least one for myself this summer.
Summer Solstice Crown

I have been heavily inspired by pagan crowns bursting with gorgeous colourful flowers and so decided to create my own.
I created a base using 18 gauge Craft wire and attached Parchment Flowers and beads in bright oranges and burnt reds with 24 gauge Craft wire until the wire was covered. I then simply tied a few lengths of ribbon to the back to add a delicate feminine feel to the crown.
