At The Bead Shop we stock an extensive range of styles, colours and sizes of jewellery clasps, perfect for homemade and professional pieces alike. Jewellery Clasps in Detail
Lobster Clasps: Lobster clasps are widely used in bracelets and necklaces due to their secure and reliable closure. They are easy to operate and provide a sturdy connection. Lobster clasps come in various sizes and styles, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your design.
Toggle Clasps: Toggle clasps are known for their decorative appeal and can add an elegant touch to your design. They consist of a T-shaped bar that fits through a circular or oval-shaped loop. Toggle clasps are particularly suitable for thicker pieces, where their size and weight help keep the clasp in place.
Magnetic Clasps: Magnetic clasps are convenient to use, especially for people with dexterity issues. They employ magnets to create a secure closure. Magnetic clasps can be easily opened and closed with one hand, making them an excellent choice for bracelets. However, it's important to ensure that the magnets used are strong enough to hold the piece securely.
Bolt Rings: Bolt rings, also known as spring ring clasps, are commonly found in fine jewellery and are known for their small size and discrete appearance. They consist of a small metal ring with a spring mechanism that opens and closes when the lever is pulled. While spring ring clasps are less bulky, they can be slightly trickier to operate compared to lobster clasps.
Box Clasps: Box clasps feature a small box-shaped component that fits into a corresponding slot. They often include a latch or lever mechanism to secure the box in place. Box clasps are sturdy and secure, making them suitable for heavier or chunkier pieces. They can be more visually prominent due to their larger size.
Large Oval Clasps: A perfect default fastening, they are inexpensive, tidy and do exactly what they are made for, they are not a fussy clasp, so, suit all types of jewellery. Our large oval clasps range are 20x15mm so they are suitable for the chunkier style of pieces.
Kumihimo Clasps: Although they are primarily designed to be used alongside the kumihimo braid, they can also be used with leather, cord, micro fibre faux suede and basically anything that can be adhered. They offer a super professional finish due to the hidden cord ends and come in 2 different sizes and 6 various sizes including antique silver and antique brass if you are looking for that vintage edge.
Multi Strand Clasps – They are designed specifically for jewellery with more than one strand, they come in useful to space out each strand neatly and make sure the piece sits perfectly. Each multi stranded clasp is designed to slide and lock inside of each other for a safe and secure finish. We stock multi stranded clasps to accommodate 2 to 4 strands and are available in gold, black and silver plated.
Screw Clasps: Screw clasps, also known as screw barrel clasps, are a type of jewellery clasp that uses a threaded mechanism to secure the closure. They consist of two components: a barrel-shaped piece with internal threading and a screw-shaped piece with external threading. Screw clasps are known for providing a strong and reliable closure, making them a popular choice for valuable or precious jewellery. They offer an extra level of security, as the screwing action makes it less likely for the clasp to accidentally come undone.
Best Necklace Clasps
Choosing the right clasps for necklaces is crucial for both the functionality and aesthetic of your creation. Lobster Clasps, known for their durability and reliability, are a popular choice for heavier necklaces and those with valuable materials. Toggle Clasps, with their stylish design, are excellent for statement pieces and are easy to fasten, making them suitable for those with limited dexterity. Magnetic Clasps provide ease of use and a sleek finish, ideal for lighter necklaces. However, spring ring clasps, while secure, are generally better suited to bracelets due to their smaller size and less robust nature.
Best Bracelet Clasps
The right clasp can make all the difference in both the functionality and overall look of a bracelet. For sturdier designs, such as those featuring heavier beads or materials, as with necklaces, lobster clasps are a dependable choice, ensuring a secure hold. With bracelets however, spring ring clasps are a classic option, offering a compact and traditional fastening, though they might be less convenient for those with dexterity issues. Toggle clasps stand out with their decorative appeal and ease of use, making them a great choice for eye-catching bracelets that you want to show off. And again, as with necklaces, magnetic clasps are great for their simplicity and effortless fastening, though they are best suited for lighter bracelets as they may not hold up under heavy stress.
