Jump rings and split rings together with headpins and eyepins form the foundations for all jewellery making. We have a huge assortment of jump rings, split rings and closed rings to link and combine into all jewellery making projects. We have stock available in sizes ranging from 3mm to 12mm in diameter and an enormous choice of colours including silver and antique brass as well as a choice of thick or thin. Jump rings are used pretty much everywhere in the world of jewellery making, they link your charms and pendants to your charm bracelet, but also link your jewellery clasps to the end of your plated chain they are hugely important in the jewellery making process. Split rings can be used as an alternative to closed rings and give the option of opening, they can be a little tricky to open however so we do suggest a Beadsmith Split Ring Plier for trouble-free use.
If you have trouble gauging which jump rings would be good for each project without looking out of proportion, this is a little helping hand;
At The Bead Shop headquarters we have discovered a super cheap, but highly effective way to making boring jump rings into a stunningly simple bracelet or necklace. This technique is ideal for beginners as mastering the art of opening and closing jump rings will definitely benefit your jewellery making in the long run. Simply take 100 or so jump rings (to be on the safe side) as well as a mixture of size 6 seed beads in various colours, then one by one open a jump ring (side to side) and thread on an odd number of seed beads (1 or 3 is plenty on a 7mm jump ring) onto each linking each jump ring to the last. You will soon have a trail of embellished jump rings, simply add a clasp and maybe a charm and you are done, a delightfully dainty bracelet. If you want something a little more dramatic why not link a few rows of seed beaded chain together and attach a multi - stranded clasp for a chain maille style bracelet cuff, you could even dabble with mixing jump ring sizes and sizes of seed beads for various twists.
