Split Rings

Split rings (along with Jump Rings) are one of the essentials in the world of Jewellery Making Supplies. They are simply coiled pieces of wire, which overlap themselves, just like a key ring. Split rings allow you to secure charms and clasps to your jewellery pieces and charm bracelets.

    What are Split Rings?

Split rings are versatile and reliable jewellery findings that play an essential role in securing charms, pendants, and other components to necklace chains, bracelets, and keychains. They resemble miniature key rings and are designed to provide a secure and durable connection.

Unlike standard jump rings, which have an open gap, split rings consist of a small, circular metal ring with a cut that allows it to expand slightly. This cut creates two parallel coils that can be pulled apart, allowing you to attach various items to the split ring. Once the items are in place, the tension of the coils holds them securely, preventing accidental detachment.

Split rings offer several advantages over regular jump rings. Their primary advantage is their superior strength and resistance to opening. The design of the split ring ensures that it remains closed tightly, making it highly reliable and ideal for attaching valuable or sentimental charms. The secure closure of split rings provides peace of mind, knowing that your cherished pieces will remain in place.

We sell split rings in various sizes, materials, and finishes to suit different jewellery designs and personal preferences, including stainless steel, brass, copper and black plated. You can choose the size of the split ring based on the thickness of the components you wish to attach.

How do you use a split ring?

Using split rings is straightforward. To attach a charm or pendant, simply insert the split ring into the small hole or loop on the component, then use pliers or split ring pliers to gently squeeze the coils back together, closing the ring securely.

Whether you're creating necklaces, bracelets, or keychains, split rings offer a reliable and durable option for attaching components. Their secure closure ensures that your jewellery remains intact, even with regular wear and movement. So, next time you need a sturdy and dependable connection, consider using split rings to enhance the durability and longevity of your jewellery designs.
