Choosing the Right Wire or Jewellery Thread

When making a beaded necklace or bracelet, the colour of the jewellery thread or wire may not really be a consideration for you, as it is going to be covered with beads. The colour, however, can really make a huge difference, especially if you are using glass beads or seed beads.
Glass beads, by nature are transparent. Light can shine through them, and be reflected by it. Even coloured glass beads are see-through. This means that your jewellery thread or wire will be visible through beads. Don’t see this as a problem though, as it can really work to your advantage.

If you have a pink glass bead, a green jewellery thread may not look so great. On the other hand, a blue or black jewellery thread will probably create a lovely purple effect through the bead.
Seed beads produce the same effect, although they will often have a metallic lining through the middle of them. As seed beads are so small, the colours can be completely altered by bright or dark jewellery threads or wires.
Wooden, metal and pearl beads are opaque, and so will not change colour depending on the threading material. However, if the jewellery thread is particularly bright, they may overwhelm the subtle effect of pearls, so it still should be a consideration.
