Don’t let obstacles such as time get in your way of making jewellery

Last month we introduced you to The Bead Shop’s new feature on how to achieve your jewellery-related goals for 2013. This week we look at how you can stick to these goals.
It is easy for us to set ourselves goals such as “Create exciting new necklace designs” but when we are asked “How will you know when you’ve reached your goal?” most of us are unsure.
To be honest most of us probably haven’t really thought about it! But that doesn’t matter as we all live very busy lives and it’s hard to find the time. To help us answer the question we can take some time to visualise exactly what we want. This makes it easier to know what we need to do to hit that goal.
Instead of aiming to “Design more jewellery” make your goal something measurable such as “Create three new earring designs”. Concrete goals are easy to measure. This takes away half of the problem.
Next, we need to take note of the potential obstacles that could get in our way. We need to think about what we want to achieve and the steps we need to take to get there.
The first step is to visualise in detail how you will feel when you have achieved your goal, then think about the potential obstacles that could stand in your way. For example if you want to create more jewellery, not having the time to do so will prevent you from achieving your goal. This will encourage you to make time for your jewellery-making.
Frequently thinking about our goals gets the ball rolling and once you start your jewellery-making mission you will find those goals being hit!
What specific goals have you set yourself in February?
