How To Make… Freshwater Pearl and Semi- Precious Necklace

This necklace combines Purple freshwater pearls with Semi Precious Gemstones alongside black plated chain and findings to give an elegant and sophisticated looking piece of jewellery.

This kit will teach you how to open and close jump rings and how to attach calottes.

Step One

Start by cutting the tiger tail wire in half. Take one half and attach a calotte to one end.

Step Two

Take the thinner of the two chains and cut in half and set half aside.

Step Three

Thread the end link of the chain onto the wire (with the calotte on the end of it) followed by a fresh water pearl.

Step Four

Place the chain half way around the pearl bead and thread the tiger tail through the link nearest the hole of the pearl so that the chain is snug to the pearl. 

Step Five

Thread another pearl onto the tiger tail and repeat step 4.

Step Six

Repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have used all the pearls. End with the chain. Trim any excess chain and attach a calotte to the tiger tail. Attach a link of the thicker chain to both calotte using a 4mm jump ring.

Step Seven

Now take the other half of the tiger tail and attach a calotte to one end.

Step Eight

Thread onto the wire a briolette bead followed by a seed bead, a briolette bead, a seed bead, and then finished with another briolette bead and attach a calotte to the end.

Step Nine

Take the small trace chain (the thicker of the two chains) measure and cut two lengths of 4 inches.

Step Ten

Attach a length of chain to both sides of the briolette beaded wire, with a 4mm jump ring.

Step Eleven

Measure and cut a length of the thinner chain at 8 inches and attach a link from the thicker chain to either end as if you would with a jump ring.

Step Twelve

Open a 10mm jump ring and thread onto it the thicker chain with the briolettes attached, the thinner chain and then fresh water pearls and close. Open another 10mm jump ring and do the same again.

Step Thirteen 

Now measure and cut two lengths of the thicker chain at 4 inches. Attach one end of the chain to each of the 10mm jump rings and use 6mm jump rings to attach the toggle to the other end.

Your necklace is now complete ENJOY!
