Tonia Litvinenko – Designer Interview
1.When and how did you start making jewellery?
I started beading when I was 13, and at that time it was mostly animals and flowers that I made. I got really into jewellery-making two years later, and now my greatest passion is making real-size flowers from seed beads, though I dedicate quite a lot of time to necklaces and bracelets as well.
2. Where do you go for inspiration?
I address myself to nature as my main source of inspiration.
3. Who is your favourite designer?
Amongst beading artist, this would be definitely Alla Maslennikova, she makes great flowers, and also like the works from Jean Claude Bertranet Jewellery brand.
4. What cant you live without when making jewellery?
I absolutely can’t do without seed beads, as it is my main material, and good wire to give flexibility to my artwork. Sometimes really fine needles to come trough seed beads are also needed.
5. What advice would you give to someone getting into jewellery making?
My best advice to those who would love to start jewellery-making is to dedicate at least two hours a week to your new hobby and to be put-off when things go wrong. When I started beading I always asked for help from my father because I could not understand some of the schemes for beaders. Also, do not be scared of trying new ideas and things!
6. What makes you smile the most when making jewellery?
Probably when I see finished piece and I realise that it looks even better than I though it would. Jewellery-making is a very creative process, and sometimes you might think of adding new details in the middle of work!
7.What advice would you give to someone thinking of setting up a business to sell their jewellery designs?
Try to sell your jewellery on-line first, and for correct pricing, you should probably ask your friends. I could never set a right price, and I usually prefer to give my designs as a present to someone, because in this case I still have an ability to come to friends’ places and see my artwork 😉
8. Finally, whats your favourite piece of jewellery to make?
I absolutely love to make necklaces, amongst jewellery, that has been always my greatest passion.
9.Any thing else you would like to add?
I want to wish good luck and inspiration to those who are already enjoying jewellery-making or to those who are only about to discover the best hobby in life!
