St. Patrick’s Day
As usual, this year’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations were unrestrained and raucous, with hundreds of celebrations taking place all over the world. The Chicago River was dyed the distinctive shade of green that has made it world famous and, closer to home, Manchester’s Irish Festival maintained its position as the biggest Irish festival in Europe; this year’s 17 day event was attended by over 200,000 people.
The bright greens of St. Patrick’s Day are also making frequent appearances in this year’s design trends. Pantone are a paint brand who have dominated the design market in recent years, with their unique colour card design now appearing on mugs, tea towels and trays. So iconic are Pantone’s colours that, since 2000, they’ve unveiled a colour of the year. This year’s colour is emerald green; it’s bright and bold, mirroring not only this year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities but many of the year’s fashion trends.
