How Pom Pom’s & Tassels Inspired my Necklace Design

The world has gone tassel crazy! Fringing, Tassels and pom poms are a must for this summer; Gucci, Matthew Williamson and Dolce & Gabbana have all featured them on their catwalks and Jimmy Choo has even tasselled his shoes!
With this in mind I wanted to create a piece of jewellery that celebrates this fantastic look. It is so fun and playful; I was excited to get to work.
One of my earlier blogs featured an Aztec jewellery range and as I loved the design of the necklace and bracelet so much, I decided to use this technique again. Only this time, using belcher chain, and using three sections instead of two.
There are many ways to make tassels; it’s a good idea to try a couple of different techniques until you find one that suits you and one that you find easy. I needed to make 10 of these little beauties so feeling comfortable and confident was important to me.
I used 3 different colours of the 0.6mm Chinese knotting cord (also known as Shamballa cord), to make one tassel. You will need 3 lots of each colour, each measuring approx. 10cms. Each one is then secured using 0.5mm Vintage Bronze Craft Wire.

I loved working with the new 9mm Polaris Style beads and I think they complement the new 6mm glass round Indian beads perfectly; the combination of colours really pops!
Again as I have mentioned in my previous blogs, I really enjoy playing around with the colours of the findings and stringing materials. For this design I have used Antique Brass plated and Black plated findings, with Black plated belcher chain.

As a little extra I used a small piece of chain to make the extension; adding a little drop on the end using a small selection of beads; this makes for a lovely finishing touch on necklaces. Alternatively, you could make this chain extra-long, which would be a stunning accessory with a backless dress.
I have also created some bracelet kits available in three colour combinations. All kits have step by step instructions with easy to follow pictures.
