• Split rings are an alternative to jump rings and closed rings. A split ring is a double looped coil that allows for things to be passed through the sides then held in position at the centre. 
• The benefit of a split ring in comparison to a jump ring is that the loop is completely sealed. This means, that any stringing material, charm etc that is held by a split ring, will not come loose. 
• The benefit of a split ring in comparison to a closed ring is that you can open & remove items should you wish. Once something is held by a closed ring, it cannot be removed without damaging the item or ring. 
• To open a split ring requires a little more effort, but the reward is worth it. We suggest you use split ring pliers which have a specifically designed jaw to make the use of split rings easy. But alternatively you can insert a flat nose plier into the ring to create a small opening.
