Statement pieces

Designers as varied as Dior, Ralph Lauren and Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini all experimented with the bold and the unexpected on the runway this year. From big choker necklaces, which have made a huge comeback since the 90s, to colourful, asymmetric earrings, the maximalist trend seems to have officially replaced the modest, subtler styles of previous years.

To create your own statement piece, incorporate one of our eye-catching pendants in your jewellery. Wear big hoop earrings and decorate them with Swarovski elements and glass beads, or create your own choker by using ribbon or choker wire, clasps and charms.

Punk revival

Punk has never really gone out of fashion since Vivienne Westwood opened her first shop on London’s King’s Road in the 70s. This year’s collections by Alexander Wang, Valentino and Puma by Rihanna saw a combination of leather jackets and hoodies with chain necklaces, piercings and safety pins.

If you want to go for an edgy, streetwise look yourself, make a necklace out of chains or use metal studs and spikes to customise your clothing or jewellery.

Whimsical baroque

With collections that looked like they were designed for royalty, Marchesa, Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane drew their inspiration this year from the baroque. Think jewels, pearls and everything else extravagant!

Don’t worry though if you can’t afford diamond ornaments, here at The Bead Shop you’ll find plenty of accessories with which to create your own baroque jewellery. Create an ornamented tiara by combining a tiara band, Swarovski elements and metal charms. Alternatively, try creating a necklace using Czech Glass Pear Drops or a brooch with flower beads.
