Heishi Beads were originally made from polished stones or shells. The word 'heishi' [pron. hee-shee] translates as ' shells that have been drilled or stung onto thread'.
Our modern day version is made from Fimo Polymer clay and is available in a variety of bright colours. They make a great alternative to traditional metal spacers and can be strung in blocks of colour or in sections of colour to create visually interesting & unique designs.
Each string contains approx 300 beads / 3mm in diamter with a 1mm hole approx
For ease when thredading we recommend using a collapsable big eye needle. Alternatively, pick up 1cm stacks of heishis inbetween your thumb and forefinger - line up the edges and pass cord through the centre.
Tips & Advice:
For a seamless finish on necklaces and bracelets, string your heishis onto cord and secure the end with a knot.
Take a 6mm bell closer, apply a small amout of glue into the bell and insert the knotted cord, plus a few heishis into the hollow of the bell closer.
