Violet Opal Necklace based on a design once worn by Grace Kelly

Everyone at the Bead Shop was really excited when we ordered the book Creating Glamorous Jewellery with Swarovski Elements: Classic Hollywood Designs with Crystal Beads and Stones by Jean Campbell, and when it arrived in the office it caused quite a stir.

This amazing book contains lots of designs that recreate some of Hollywood’s most famous pieces of Jewellery as worn by the likes of Marlene Dietrich, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Mae West, and we just had to have a go.

This stunning Violet Opal Necklace is based on a design once worn by Grace Kelly in the film To Catch a Thief, and was made by our Office Manager, Janine.

A beginner to bead weaving, Janine thought that this would be a great place to start and decide to play around with the design a little. Instead of using round Swarovski Beads as suggested in the book, Janine used Bicones to create a bit more of a sparkle and used 2mm Metal Spacer beads instead of seed beads in between the Bicones.

We hope you enjoy this book and its designs as much as we do. We can’t wait to make more!

A really stunning design and it could be made in so many different combinations. How about Black and Silver or Red and Gold, or even Green and Red with the gold spacer beads for a Christmas design? For a beginner, Janine has done very well.
