Make a bookmark that will stay in your book

Bookmarks are things that most of us have, even if we don’t use it all the time. This may be because we are reading more than one book at a time (and find the closest thing to hand, like a receipt or train ticket), or because they slip out of the book and become lost.

One way to ensure your bookmark won’t slip out of your book is by having something at the top that isn’t so slim it’ll fit between the pages of your book. There are bookmarks available with a half loop at the top, and a small metal ring beneath that. You can attach charms, pendants, jump rings or beads to this, in order to personalise it.

If you make a small charm, with two or three Swarovski beads and a metal bead, you can attach it to the bookmark, and be sure that they won’t slip between the pages of your book and be gone forever. This way, the long slim metal bookmark stays in place, and the hook and charm come over the top of the spine to prevent its falling out.

You can have a different charm for each genre of book, or depending on how much you want tot read it. You could even make the charm fit with your book: e.g. a pirate flag if you are reading Treasure Island.
